All things Graphic Design. From Corporate ID's to Publication, and everything inbetween.

Mocha Market Magazine uses great local writers, and promotes awesome local talent, organizations and businesses. This article is great advice for anyone, but how do you make a financial page look interesting? With the best illustration to represent the story, and very open typography.

This was a fictional magazine, but a real article. I just love how this one turned out, despite having to use stock, and found imagery. Original illustration for the opening page, and fun cutouts give it real visual interest to counteract the sea of type for the lengthy article squeezed onto 3 pages. The color palette and typography pull these pages together. If you like this style, and would like to see this type of work in your own magazine, contact me.

Mocha Market highlights local individuals that are making big waves in the community, and the world. This retro-chic fashion designer is doing just that. His imagery had to really shine. The typography was simplified and played back to let the photography take the lead in drawing the readers eye.

Red Leaf started out as a home and business re-design company featuring services like refinishing a bathroom or closet, to complete overhauls of a room. These engineers and carpenters, with a flare for the rustic, are currently developing a line of products. I am sworn to secrecy, so don't ask, but big things are happening with these guys, and I am proud to say "I've been with them since the beginning." This logo is Red Leaf's new face, and identity.

A completely fictional store, Metro Goods is all that is fresh, new and trendy. Perhaps at a value that would even make the thriftiest of us take notice. It's the kind of place I would shop for anything I need in my home. If you like this identity and want it for yourself, it can be arranged. Make it reality. I'll shop there.

Silvergate Productions is a Nashville based booking and promotions company for the local rock and metal scene. The music industry is not easy street, but it's a lot easier now the Silvergate is promoting here. In the short year that Silvergate Productions has been actively and collaboratively promoting in Nashville, they have opened a new feel to the scene. Who knows? Perhaps Nashville will be known worldwide for more than country.

Advertisements
Even the best companies advertise. Their voice needs to be heard amongst all of the other visual polution that is out there.
Publication

Magazine Design, is a completely different animal than advertisement, or corporate id's. There's a lot more typography. The art has to pull the eye, but without overshadowing the story.
Corporate Identity

All businesses need a face to give their customers. That face needs to tell a visual story of the company's attitude, what they represent, and what services they provide.

Illustration

Illustration is usually just my own personal exploration babies, but ocasionally they develop legs and run away with the people that fall in love with them.

Drawn for the Bald is Beautiful Convention in Morehead, NC. This was an exercise in comic strip humor. All hand drawn, then brought into the computer to use overprinting techniques for color.

This Koi was an exercise in using watercolor brushes with in Photoshop. It has a very painterly appearance, and I was pleased how I was able to maintain a by-hand feel on a computer generated piece. All was freehand, even though Photoshop was the medium. No photographs, or real koi were used in the making of this illustration.

This t-shirt illustration is from the CD release poster for For Lack of Lythium. The illustration came from a pun the lead singer, Austin Newman, came up with as one of those "this has nothing to do with any content on the CD, but it would still be cool" ideas. And it is! It's awesome (pronounced Austin). Still makes me giggle.

Entertainment/Show Design
Anything and everything, entertainment and show related. Most of this stuff is just one band, but I am their official and permanent designer. Bands need everything from CDs, to
posters, stage banners, and Facebook pages. So I'd say, that running a band's visual identity accross all those avenues is challenging all on it's own.

This was my introduction to the band. They needed a logo, and it was my opinion that they were SO different, they needed a symbol. I came up with this. Rough, disturbing, maybe a little genocidal. It's been their look ever since. These guys are going places. If you haven't found them on Spotify or iTunes yet, go look.

Their first full length CD. Recorded at Benchmark Studios, in Nashville, TN. These guys worked long and hard on this CD. So I did too. If you listen to the music, the cover will begin to make sense.

One of my favorite posters for these guys (I've done a few) It was designed in honor of one of their songs "Molatav."
